Welcome to the official webpage for the Barony of Ramshaven.

The Barony of Ramshaven is a geographical region of southern Ontario, Canada, that represents the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The Barony covers south-western Ontario west of highway 25 and north of highway 401 .

The SCA is a not-for-profit, educational "living history" society, dedicated to the study and re-enactment of many varied aspects of daily life in the Middle Ages. With an estimated active membership of 150,000 members worldwide, we have gifted re-enactors ranging from the beginner to the masters of skill and lore of days gone by.

Our Barony is composed of local or regional groups called "cantons"; both the barony itself and each canton are managed by groups of officers, in much the same way as any modern local club. In our case, the officer roles are modeled on a medieval hierarchy: for example, each group has a seneschal (the territorial "over-seer" who tended the daily needs of a particular village or hamlet on behalf of a local baron) who acts as branch president, and an exchequer who handles all the finances for each group the same way a modern club treasurer does. Other officers fulfill other duties, such as handling the training and equippage of new fighters and fencers, assisting with the research and presentation of personal coats of arms, providing opportunities to learn medieval arts and sciences, and so on.

These groups have a larger contact to the Society as a whole via our Baroness and Baron. These two are a focal point for information and policy within the Barony and the rules of the SCA, as well as the figureheads who represent their populace to the kingdom and beyond.

If you are new to the SCA, there is a large volume of useful information about getting started in the SCA in general, and the SCA in Ontario specifically, available through the web (you can start with the Ontario SCA site). Interested people are welcome to attend our meetings and practices; you are also welcome to attend our events, so long as you make a reasonable attempt at pre-17th century costume. You might need some help with the costume part, and since most local groups maintain a collection of loaner costume and other gear, it's a good idea to touch base with a local group before attending your first event. (Costumes are not generally required for group business meetings and practices, but this may vary from group to group.)

Please feel welcome to look around and examine the information on the pages within.
