About the Office
Kingdom law describes the Lawspeaker as
"...an experienced member of the Society who commands the respect of the
subjects of Ealdormere. This person shall possess the capacity to mediate,
arbitrate and provide counsel. The Lawspeaker will act as a mediator and
ombudsman and as a councilor to the Crown." I see the office as being of
two parts; A Listener and a Voice. The Lawspeaker leads the kingdom moot
for each reign, resolves the interpersonal disputes of the populace,
chairs our Court of Inquiry, and sits as a the people's voice on the Privy
Council. The interpretation of law is the role of a seneschal, not the
Lawspeaker. The facilitating of constructive communication is paramount
to this office. It not only allows for the voicing of common concerns in
a public forum, but also the private resolution of more personal
conflicts.
About the Officer
I, Evan Quicktongue, am
proud to be the fifth Lawspeaker of Ealdormere. I consider Ealdormere’s
Lawspeaker to be a unique role within our Society and I am honoured to
have been chosen to serve in this capacity. I have been lucky enough to
live in four of our five baronies and this has given me me a somewhat
unique perspective on our kingdom. It has been said that I possess a
certain “respectful frankness” that allows me to speak openly with anyone,
regardless of their rank or station. I’d like to think that most people
know me, and find me to be approachable. Please seek me out at events,
and we’ll talk.
