Kingdom of Ealdormere Regalia

At long last, an online gallery has been created to showcase the various items of regalia owned by the kingdom.

The gallery is still a work-in-progress, and we apologize for any errors or omissions that it may contain. If you have questions about any of the items, would like to provide additional information regarding the artisan or donor of a particular piece or have pictures of regalia you would like to contribute to the gallery, please do not hesitate to contact the Kingdom regalia Minister. You will also notice that some items are marked as missing. If you have any information as to the whereabouts of these missing pieces of regalia, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

Donations

People have frequently asked for some suggestions as to what items are needed by the Kingdom, so here is an outline for some ideas for anyone who is interested in creating or donating regalia.

Donations of any regalia are always welcome, but topping the "wish list" at the moment is a set of leather drinking tankards for use by the royals around the fighting lists and at camping events. Another much desired item would be a lightweight traveling case for the lovely crossbow that was gifted to us by Calontir at First Coronation. We are also in need of carpets for under the thrones. Heraldic clothing for the royalty and a new heirs’ banner are also currently on the regalia wish list. Are there other things that the kingdom needs? Yes. Most of those things fall into the "disposable" or "time-limited usefulness" category...matched sets of cutlery and napkins, replacement tabards for when current ones wear out...things like that. Contact me for more details if you are interested in creating or donating any of these items.

If you are making something that includes the kingdom device, please check with the Kingdom regalia Minister or the Trillium Herald to ensure that you have the correct device for the item, the office or the various royals. If you are making something out of fabric, it cannot be stressed enough the extreme importance of pre-washing the fabric to within an inch of its life... red plus white equals pink, remember. The jokes about the “Blazing Pink Banner of the Prince of Ealdormere” have become so common as to cease to be even remotely funny. Also, all items should ideally be durable, portable and easy to care for, and should hopefully either replace worn-out regalia currently in use or fill some sort of need that the kingdom or the royalty has that the existing regalia is not meeting.

Before embarking on a project to create or donate regalia to the kingdom, you may find it helpful to ask yourself the following questions:

• Does the kingdom have a need for this item? Or is it just something cool?

• Do we already have one of these items in regalia? If so, why do we need another one? If not, why don't we already have one?

• Has the Kingdom regalia Minister been consulted in case a similar item is already in the works?

• Does the item have a use? Or is it just for display/decoration?

• Who is the item intended to be used by? How often?

• Is the item easily transportable? Does it easily fit in a vehicle?

• Is the item relatively lightweight? Can it be lifted and/or carried by one person?

• Is the item durable? Or is it easily breakable?

• Does the item have a lot of small parts that could be easily lost?

• Does the item require special care? Can it be cleaned easily and cheaply?

• If the item is intended for use by a group or an officer, have they been consulted?

• Has the Trillium Herald been consulted as to the correct design and usage of the kingdom device? (if applicable)

• Will this project cost the kingdom money? (either in order to create it or in order to store and/or maintain it later) If so, has the Kingdom Exchequer been consulted?

• Has the Kingdom regalia Minister been consulted about the project? (I just can't stress that enough.)

Using the above questions as a guideline should help to ensure that your efforts are put to the best possible use for everyone involved.

If you have a particular skill or idea, and would like to create or buy something for the kingdom, please contact The Kingdom regalia Minister, preferably as the first step in the process, especially with regards to larger or more costly items. Part of the job is to assist gentles seeking to donate regalia...and the regalia Minister is more than happy to help in any way possible.
