JUNE 7, 2008 Harmony Square & Victoria Park, Brantford
Greetings from Count Edward the Red,
Bryniau Tywynnog (and Ben Dunfirth) has an exciting opportunity to show off what the SCA has to offer to a
large audience, in Brantford on Saturday, June 7th.
Brantford is celebrating the opening of a new civic square. As part of that celebration, the Brantford
Chess club is hosting a chess match between the mayor of Brantford and the mayor of Kitchener. They've
asked us to come out and fill a life-sized chess board with medieval participants, and battle over the
squares. We are primarily looking for armoured combatants, and our dream would be to fill a full board
with 32 fighters, and battle it out right on the board. If numbers don't permit, we can quite happily mix
in rapier combatants, and any costumed people willing to stand in for a piece - in which case any unarmoured
participants will be able to send a "champion" in their place. They have asked up to use full competitive
combat to decide the capture of the pieces. The chess club is offering us food vouchers to local
restaurants, as well as space in a nearby park, for the remainder of the day to picnic and to continue the
demo.
We will have space for fighting, fencing, boffer, arts and sciences displays, and most anything else you
can think of. (Sorry, no archery!)
To arrange all this, we will need to know in advance how many people are coming, and how many parking spots
they will need to reserve for us. Parking will be at Brantford City Hall, 100 Wellington Street.
Hope to see lots of you there!
